Thank you for supporting our fallen veterans this morning- we had our leadership show up in full force to include the Churchville Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop 133, Lions club, Churchville Chili HS Band, 490 QM Company and their military vehicles, along with our community leaders. Senator Helming came to Churchville to make remarks to our fallen and veterans. She had over 60 towns to choose and she picked our humble village. We invited State Legislator Harry Bronson but unfortunately they did not respond back, Monroe Cointy Steve Brew who has an impeccable record supporting our Veterans attended along with School Superintendent Carmine Peluso, Town leaders Kim Pape, Scott Flagler and Ken Kuter were present to show their support and love of our fallen veterans. Village leader- Deputy Mayor Diane Pusateri, trustees Michael Brown and Julie Michalko were here.

Our guest speaker was Ron Torcello, Squadron Commander For the Sons of the American Legion (SAL). Dave Thomas, Riga Recreation Director was our Grand Marshall for this year’s parade. The Churchville Chili HS band was phenomenal as usually under the direction of Alison Chipman. Boy Scout Troop 133 under Tom Lisle and the parents were incredible passing out flags and candy and on last Sunday, placed flags on the Veteran’s graves. We were honored to have the 480 QM Company of Rochester proving 3 military vehicles. The Churchville Fire Department was incredible with vehicle support and assisting the Monroe County Sheriffs with traffic control. Lastly , the Gates Chili Bag Pipers playing Amazing Grace along with Adam Sargent and hi compatriot provided TAPs at the concluding ceremony at the Civil War ceremony in the ceremony.

Town and Village turnout was great and really provided respect to our fallen. Guest speaker Torcello along with remarks from Sen Helming really set the tone today for reverence and respect to our Veterans that paid the ultimate price.

Again, thank you to all that participated and thank you to our great Legion family who without their dedication and help - this ceremony and parade would not occur. A special shoutout to my wife Tish - who all things are possible.A big thank you to Geoff Larson - the Parade Marshall - a great job coordinating all the pieces!— with Letitia Juergens.

The Poppy Story

After World War I, the poppy flourished in Europe. Scientists attributed the growth to soils in France and Belgium becoming enriched with lime from the rubble left by the war. From the dirt and mud grew a beautiful red poppy. The red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed during battle following the publication of the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields.” The poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. while serving on the front lines.

On September 27, 1920, the poppy became the official flower of The American Legion family to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during the war. In 1924, the distribution of poppies became a national program of The American Legion.

Led by the American Legion Auxiliary, each year members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation to support the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.

Poppy Day is celebrated in countries around the world. The American Legion brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day, as National Poppy Day.

On May 26, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform.

Harvey C. Noone Post 954 100 Year Dinner and celebration was held on Wednesday, April 24th. It was a celebratory event acknowleding our last 100 years and all we have accomplished and plans we have for the future.
